Analyst sees better match in Pacquiao-Mosley than Floyd fight

MANILA, Philippines – Contrary to popular belief, a Manny Pacquiao-Shane Mosley match up is more fun to watch than a superfight between the Pinoy superstar and Floyd Mayweather Jr.

At least, that’s what Emmanuel Steward believes.

Steward, one of HBO’s boxing commentators and a Hall-of-Fame trainer, said Mosley is a better match for Pacquiao, the reigning pound-for-pound king.

“The true, true really explosive fight that the true fight fans would look forward to would be with Shane Mosley and Pacquiao,” he said in an interview with On the Ropes Boxing Radio.

Although he admitted that most fight fans are more interested to see a head-to-head clash between Pacquiao and Mayweather, he said a Pacquiao-Mosley match is better because of their fighting styles.

“I mean you know that Shane is going to bring it to you, I mean that’s him. There’s no way he’s going to run from anybody or try to be technical and if things get rough he’s still going to fight,” said Steward, who was behind the boxing successes of Tommy Hearns and Lennox Lewis.

Like Mosley, Pacquiao never backs down from a brawl. This has made the Filipino a very popular boxing champion.

Mosley called out for a Pacquiao fight after the Filipino knocked out Ricky Hatton in 2 rounds in May 2009.

However, things didn’t work out as the Filipino opted to fight Miguel Cotto for the World Boxing Organization (WBO) welterweight crown.

Mayweather’s climb out of retirement further pushed Mosley out of Pacquiao’s picture as fight fans clamored to see a battle between the 2 pound-for-pound kings.
